Whether or not you agree that some or all abortions should be legal, the organization Planned Parenthood by name alone is deceptive in practice.
Here, Planned Parenthood discusses options for abortions up to 24 weeks for an unwanted pregnancy- more or less treating abortion as birth control. Despite this, I’ll bet every one of the employees at Planned Parenthood congratulates someone who happily announces she is pregnant. I’d put more money on it that many of them buy Mother’s Day cards for pregnant friends and even clients.
So…if abortion is a service provided by these guys, then how does planned Parenthood define “parenthood”?
There is nothing that I have found on their website that encourages parenthood or even the concept of parenthood. There are a few mentions of “family planning”, but isn’t that considerably removed from parenthood?
Here is what they have to say about their movement:
Whether talking with members of Congress, parents, or faith leaders, or arguing cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, we fight for commonsense policies that promote women’s health, allow individuals to prevent unintended pregnancies through access to affordable contraception, and protect the health of young people by providing them with comprehensive sex education.
No mention of parenthood or even family planning and no mention of abortion rights even though they commit significant space on their website promoting it. Abortions are supposedly for “unintended pregnancies”, so women’s health doesn’t seem to quite apply and abortion, by definition, is not a contraceptive and sex education has come a little late with an abortion. As a matter of fact, Planned Parenthood does provide health screenings that have nothing to do with abortion such as cervical exams, so abortion must fall squarely into the realm of contraception according to them.
But wait, dig a little and you find the convenient term “reproductive rights” under Planned Parenthood’s Action Center. This is yet another deceiving term that has nothing to do with the right to reproduce. It’s about the right to stop reproduction- the right to abortion. For being given its own “Action Center’ you’d think it would be mentioned as part of the movement on Planned Parenthood’s main site. Hmm….
If Planned Parenthood won’t just come out and say what they are, an abortion advocacy group, then what else aren’t they saying? I wonder how much money Planned Parenthood makes off of desperate, impoverished women in third world countries who believe they have no other options- whether it be profit, grants, or government funding. Hmm…
